FAQs
Are there any contraindications to KAP? There are some medical and psychiatric conditions that are contraindicated with KAP. They are pregnancy, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, certain medications and a history of psychosis or mania.
What does a KAP session look like? The medicine (ketamine) sessions last 3 hours. We begin by reviewing your intentions and goals for the session that were previously explored during the preparation session. You are then given a dose of ketamine that is appropriate for you based on your previous experiences and intention. You put on your eye-shades (to assist in going inward), the music begins, and after 7-10 minutes you’ll begin to feel the medicine in your system. We are with you the entire time maintaining safety and documenting your insights, feelings, thoughts, sensations and revelations as that material arises. The journey lasts about an hour before you return to your normative self. This last portion of the journey is precious time because you will begin to integrate your experience. This integration process continues with the actual integration sessions that happen within a week of your journey.
Do we accept insurance? Currently, we are not contracted with any insurance companies. However, we will provide a ‘superbill’ for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Stay in touch, because we intend to contract with insurers soon!
What conditions is KAP being used for? KAP is being used off-label to work and lessen depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), existential distress, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
